From Thursday 30 May to Sunday 2 June 2024, the Reggia of Venaria will host the second edition of the Late Spring Music Festival. The innovative musical project is conceived by the Consortium of the Royal Residences of the House of Savoy (Consorzio delle Residenze Reali Sabaude) together with Claudio Pasceri, one of the most appreciated Italian cellists and former artistic director of prestigious festivals, in the role of artist in residence.
The festival offers various musical events during the four days in the name of great music. The protagonists are artists of international prestige who will perform in the iconic places of the complex: the evocative Sala Diana and the Chapel of Sant'Uberto, the grandiose Gardens and the majestic Great Gallery.
Each musical event is designed specifically for the spaces that host it, and is focused on eras and styles from the Baroque to the music of our days, through the great artists of Classicism and the Romantic period.
The musical events will take place at different times of the day, through a peaceful invasion in music which flows into I Suoni della Sera (The Sounds of the Evening).
The musical days will be announced, every morning, by the hunting horns of the Equipaggio della Regia Venaria (Regal Venaria Crew) with evocative force and colour.
The performers of the event will come to the Reggia to perform solo repertoires and to join in chamber interpretations, to tackle orchestral pages and to sing a cappella.
The event will be opened by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Teatro Regio of Turin together with the virtuous percussionist Andrei Pushkarev in the Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi, presented for the first time in Italy in this acrobatic version.
The sought-after female choir Ensemble Sequenza 9.3 will be the protagonist of a program built around the magnificent Corsican folk songs.
The extraordinary French pianist Wilhem Latchoumia will move from the elegant South American rhythms of the Brazilian Villa-Lobos to the heights of the cathedral-music of J S Bach.
The Prometeo Quartet, winner of the Silver Lion Award at the 2012 Venice Biennale, will range from the works of the Russian genius Dmitri Shostakovich to the hypnotic minimalism of the American Steve Reich with the song Different Trains for quartet and electronics, then they will perform Franz Schubert's masterpiece, the quintet D 956, with Claudio Pasceri.
The German pianist Herbert Schuch will offer two recitals dedicated to two giants of the history of music, Mozart and Beethoven, while the Gropius Quartett will tackle the masterpieces of Haydn and Mendelssohn, entering into today's ironic and refined music.
Again the percussion of Puskarev, in duo with Pavel Beliaev, which from the sonorous incandescence of Astor Piazzolla will arrive at the spirituality of the melodies of Arvo Pärt.
Francesco Pomarico's oboe soloist will accompany the audience through the phantasmagorical Six Metamorphoses from Ovid by Benjamin Britten at the Fountain of Hercules, in the Gardens of the Residence.
Claudio Pasceri and the choir of the Ensemble Sequenza 9.3 will give voice to the new work, in world premiere and dedicated to the Reggia of Venaria, by Ivan Fedele, one of the greatest contemporary composers.
Gianluca Verlingieri will create for the Late Spring Music Festival a sound installation entitled Different Trails.
A true living legend, violinist Salvatore Accardo will be present at Reggia di Venaria to talk about his life in music, with one of Italy's most esteemed musicologists, Angelo Foletto. With the participation of Irene Accardo, pianist.
Other meetings will feature the musicologist and fine storyteller Guido Barbieri and the philosopher and journalist Filippo La Porta.
The directors of important European music festivals come to Reggia di Venaria to talk about their realities and discuss the theme "how to imagine the future of music" between suggestion and enthusiasm. This year's guest at the event will be Felix Heri, Head of the Lucerne Festival Contemporary.
As in the first edition of the Late Spring Music Festival, the events addressed to children entitled La Voce degli Strumenti, alla scoperta degli strumenti musicali will be very important.
